Russell Neal (Pete) Cain, age 92, of Findlay Township, Clinton, PA, went home peacefully to his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, with his loving family by his side. Pete was born in Clinton, PA, on May14, 1932. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna (Messner) Cain, and his sisters, Delores Logan and Betty Reddinger. Pete leaves behind a legacy of love, his beloved wife of 64 years, Kathy (Bartos) Cain; his children, Kelly (Jeff) Braddock of Southampton, NJ, Russell (Heather) Cain Jr. of Washington, PA, and Brian (Terry) Cain of Clinton, PA; five beautiful granddaughters, Lindsay, Cassidy, Alexandra, Lianna, and Brianna, and two great-granddaughters, Aurora and Maisie; and a sister, Cathy (Dale) Reddinger. He will be deeply missed by his many friends, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Pete graduated from West Allegheny High School in 1950 becoming the first quarterback of the combined schools - Findlay, North Fayette, and Oakdale. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, stationed in Germany. Pete worked for Texaco and was transferred to New Jersey where he lived for nine years before returning home to be closer to family. Pete ended his career working for his alma mater, West Allegheny School District, where he said he was most happy working and interacting with the students. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, and was the best map reader, expertly navigating road trips to numerous states and helping others to do the same. Pete will be remembered for so many things including his squash pancakes and an endless array of witty sayings like “Can’t be done.” Rest in peace, Pete.
Family to receive friends on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, between the hours of 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, at HERRICK COMPASSIONATE FUNERAL SERVICE, PC, Edward M. Herrick, Owner/Supervisor, 951 Cliff Mine Road, North Fayette Township, Imperial, PA, 724-695-7332. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at 11:00 am at Crossroads Church, 1000 Crossroads Drive, Oakdale (EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT THE CHURCH), followed by burial with military honors at Clinton U.P. Church Cemetery. It is respectfully requested that memorial donations in Pete's name be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105-9959, or to one's favorite charity.
