Ramona Sparber Obituary

Ramona C. Sparber, age 89, passed away at her home at Tapestry Senior Living on Tuesday, December 1, 2025.  She was born in Imperial, PA, on March 15, 1936, the first child to the late Violet (Heidler) and James Chatterly.  Ramona grew up in Aliquippa, PA, and spent much time with her grandmother Heidler in Imperial.  She and Charles “Chuck” Sparber met before she graduated from West Allegheny High School in 1954.  They fell in love and were married on July 23, 1956, and enjoyed a marriage of 56 years until Chuck’s death on December 12, 2012.  Ramona is survived by her daughter, Crystal (the late Randy Godwin) Farrow, son, Jay Sparber and his wife, Kay, and brother, Ed Winterbauer.  She is preceded in death by her sister, Nancy Shope, and brother, James Chatterly.

Ramona was a dedicated, traditional wife and mom.  Crystal and Jay were raised in a loving home with many warm chocolate chip cookies (and the occasional light swat of a wooden spoon).  Ramona stayed very involved with all of their school and church activities.  She also enjoyed cooking and baking for others.  Many neighbors and community members were happy to commission her beautifully decorated cakes for their special occasions.

Upon Chuck’s retirement, he and Ramona volunteered for two years with the Water for Life mission in Haiti, an experience of their lifetimes.  After returning home, they continued volunteer and mission work on a more local basis.  They also enjoyed leisure travel to many countries around the world.  Ramona could strike up friendships on any trip, staying in touch with fellow travelers.  She also loved her Silver Sneakers classes as much for socialization as for the physical health benefits.

Ramona will be dearly missed by her children and extended family, former neighbors, and friends.  Crystal and Jay extend their deepest appreciation to Debbie Heinz who offered practical supports and friendly visits to their mom several times each month during Ramona’s last few years.

Ramona was a lifelong member of Valley Presbyterian Church.  She served in many capacities over the years and enjoyed the fellowship of her church family.  It is respectfully requested that donations in Ramona’s memory be sent to Valley Presbyterian Church, 237 Main Street, Imperial, PA, 15126.
