Michael (Mike) Pyda passed away peacefully January 30, 2022, in Overland Park, KS. He was 91. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years Helen (Swigunski) Pyda on November 30, 2014. Loving father of Ellen Donohue (Joe) of Walnut Creek, CA, and Michele Sevcik (Joe) of Overland Park, KS; cherished grandfather to Amanda Sevcik of Silver Spring, MD, and Amy Sevcik of Hailey, ID; brother of Elizabeth Poznak and the late Anne, George, Peter and Mary Pyda, Helen Petak (Joe) and many nieces and nephews including niece Patricia Melrose. Throughout the years many great memories were made with Helen's sister and brother-in-law, the late Stella and Bruno Trapizona, nephews John (Denise), James (Jill), niece JudiLynn Bourn (Rick). There wasn't a tomato grown or a sample of JT's homemade wine that didn't make Uncle Mike smile.
Throughout his working years, Mike held various jobs; stone mason, auto worker, steel worker, and finally a custodian for the West Allegheny Middle School retiring in 1997. Mike will be remembered for his love of gardening, growing lemon trees, canning various vegetables - many earning blue ribbons at the Findlay Township Fair. Above all, Mike was a passionate story teller. Often Helen would say "You already told that story", but that didn't stop him. We all learned a lot from those stories.
Mike was the happiest surrounded by family, friends, and his cat "Baby Boy". His sense of humor, kindness and gentle soul shined throughout his life often saying "Don't pass up an opportunity to help someone". He is now at peace joined with the love of his life, Helen. We love and cherish all that you gave us Pops and Paca.
