Michael Kenneth “Ken” Diskin, age 94, passed peacefully at his apartment in Coraopolis, PA, on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, with his children at his side. Ken was born in New York City, NY, on August 23, 1930, to the late Helen Mary (Paddell) and Michael Kenneth Diskin. Ken spent most of his childhood years in Scranton, PA, and upon graduating from the Scranton Preparatory School, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War Conflict. After serving his country, Ken was honorably discharged and moved to Pittsburgh, PA, with his family where he met his beloved wife, Lois. Together they raised six children in the suburbs of Pittsburgh in the town of Oakdale. Ken worked his entire career for the Jones & Laughlin Steel Corporation (J&L) in the South Side of Pittsburgh. He finished his tenure with the company working in their Production Planning Department.
Ken is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lois (Gracy) Diskin, his siblings, Patricia, Donald, and James Diskin, and his son-in-law, Lawrence Lagattuta. He is survived by his six children, Ellen (Carmen Gualtieri), Michael (Lisa Neff), Mark (Dorothy Davis), Patrick (Stacey Barone), Kathleen, and Maureen (Lawrence Lagattuta). He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and sisters-in-law Ellen Diskin, Diane Diskin, Joan Gracy, and Evelyn Caparelli. Ken will always be remembered as a true gentleman, wonderful father, and friend.
Family to receive friends on Sunday, October 20, 2024, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at HERRICK COMPASSIONATE FUNERAL SERVICE, PC, Edward M. Herrick, Supervisor/Owner, 951 Cliff Mine Road, North Fayette Township, Imperial, PA, 724-695-7332. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 21, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Isidore the Farmer Parish at St. Columbkille R.C.
