M. Dolores “Dede” Franchek, age 94, of Findlay Township, Imperial, PA, passed away at her residence on Saturday morning, February 3, 2024. She was born in North Fayette Township on March 18, 1929, daughter to the late Harriet (Chambers) and Simon Hughes. Dede is survived by her devoted husband, Henry Franchek, with whom she would have celebrated 75 years of marriage on May 18, 2024; beloved mother to Diane Boyd and her husband, Frank, and George Franchek and his fiancé, Mary Ann McMahon; cherished grandmother to Frank (Beth) Boyd, George (Kristi) Franchek, Jason (Lori) Boyd, Pam Franchek, and Ron Boyd (Beth Fordyze); adored great-grandmother to Randi, Derek (Laina), Kameron, Ethan (Sarah), Mason, Emily, Rylee, Madison, Alyssa, and Destiny; special aunt to many nieces and nephews. Dede was preceded in death by seven brothers and seven sisters: Raymond Hughes, Sadie James, Myrtle Anderson, Ann Hughes, Ellen Bolind, Tom Hughes, Chuck Hughes, Dan Hughes, James Hughes, George Hughes, Martha Franchek, Louise Mikolowski, Hazel Simko, and Ken Hughes.
Dede’s special skill was her excellent cooking, and she was a wonderful canner of produce from Henry’s garden. On holidays, she loved cooking and entertaining for the entire family. Dede enjoyed sharing shopping and lunch excursions with her daughter and sitting outside on her porch with family and her dog, Heidi. She always spoke highly of her nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. Dede was most proud of her family: her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She had so many wonderful memories of them all growing up.
Family to receive friends at the HERRICK COMPASSIONATE FUNERAL SERVICE, PC, Edward M. Herrick, Supervisor/Owner, 951 Cliff Mine Road, North Fayette Township, Imperial, PA, 724-695-7332, on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, between the hours of 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Isidore the Farmer Parish at St. Columbkille Church, Route 30, Imperial, PA, on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at 10:00 am, followed by interment at St. Columbkille Cemetery.
