Lillian A. “Lil” Kocuba, of North Fayette Township, Imperial, PA, at the blessed age of 100, passed away peacefully at her home in Imperial surrounded by her children on Saturday morning, December 13, 2025. Lil was born in Pittsburgh, PA, on August 13, 1925, the second of nine children born to the late Coletta (Dithrich) and Walter Boehm; loving wife of 67 years to the late Stanley S. Kocuba who passed on March 21, 2014; beloved mother to her eight children – Marjorie Thompson, Donna Suchar, Stanley (Jan) Kocuba, Nicholas (Virginia) Kocuba, Mary Kay Meanor (Ron Kelley), Melinda (Mike) Antes, Maxine (Mike), and Vincent (Christine) Kocuba. Lil was blessed with 19 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren (plus one due in January), and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by siblings Carol (Alfred) Funk, Marian (Richard) Mason, Stephen (Lorraine) Boehm, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Lil is preceded in death by her grandson, Dan Suchar, great-great-grandson, Vito DiGennaro, and siblings Viola Kohl, Walter Boehm, Coletta Roth, Lawrence Boehm, and Georgia Boehm.
Lil graduated at age 16 from St. Wendelin in Carrick, PA, and worked at Woolworth’s, Westinghouse, and Mesta Machine. Later in life, she worked at Sarachine and Downings, the local Head Start program, and Boni’s Dry Cleaning.
Lil grew up during Depression times and learned the meaning of family, thrift, and charitable gifts at a young age, lessons she never forgot. Throughout her life, she looked outward to share a kindness in repayment for the charitable kindnesses she knew in childhood. Lil always contributed to the well-being of her family – parents, siblings, and children – especially in times of need. After marrying Stan on June 1, 1946, she moved to the country (Imperial) which was quite an adjustment. She used many skills to create a warm home for her growing family and pets including planting beautiful flower gardens, sewing clothes, and providing needs. She indisputably made the best turkey stuffing, stuffed peppers, cabbage rolls, fudge, pineapple squares, and spice bars (Poor Man’s Bars).
Lil was very active in the community and had leadership roles with St. Columbkille Christian Mothers and West Allegheny Band Parents/Drill Team. She also taught CCD classes at St. Columbkille Church. Lil was an avid reader and member of a book club and Bunko group. She valued her time at home with her family but did get to travel to the East coast with her mother and siblings, and she made several trips to the West coast with family and friends to visit her daughter.
Lil was highly creative and had many collections and hobbies. She collected porcelain dolls, cat and cardinal figurines, and everything Harry Potter. She enjoyed playing her organ, reading, sewing dolls and stuffed animals, and making jewelry. She was witty, had a great sense of humor, and stayed sharp with word search books. She was a fan of Oak Island and the Bee Gees. Lil kept creating well into her 90’s but, more importantly, she enjoyed sharing those creations with family and bestowing gifts to others.
Lil will forever remain an inspiration to her family and anyone with whom she shared a kindness. She will be missed by many and live on in our hearts.
