Joan passed peacefully at her family's home in Mechanicsburg, PA. Born to David and Laura Learish, she was the second of their four daughters and they lived on the Robinson end of Campbell's Run Road. She began her own family when she married Burton Trautman and raised their sons Don and David in Clinton.
Always fond of reading, Joan returned to school for a bachelors from Slippery Rock and a masters from Pitt in Library Science. She chose to share this love through a career at the West Allegheny School District and the Carnegie Library System. Even when she retired, she worked with the West Allegheny and Robinson Township Libraries and involved herself with the Friends of the Library. Her two great loves were reading and quilting; she never felt as though she had enough books or material.
For her 80th birthday she fulfilled her dream of skydiving, landing amongst twenty friends and family there to celebrate her and her life.
A lifelong Pittsburgher and ardent supporter of the Steelers, Joan's family knew better than to bother her on a Sunday afternoon during football season.
Joan was preceded by her husband (Burt) and son (David), as well as sisters (Betty and Janie) and many friends. She is survived by her son and his wife (Don and Marla) and their children (Leslie and Denny), her daughter-in-law (Patty), granddaughter (Shayna), and great-granddaughter (Sadie), as well as her sister (Shirley) and many other friends and family.
She is now where she has wanted to be for a long time. At peace with her Lord and Savior, Jesus.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to the West Allegheny Library so she can continue to pass on her love of reading to those who follow, library card in hand.
