John A. Ursic Jr., age 80, of North Fayette Township, Imperial, PA, passed away suddenly on Monday, December 18, 2023. John was born in Sewickley, PA, on April 5, 1943, son to the late Margaret J. (Stevenson) and John A. Ursic Sr. He is survived by his doting daughter, Tracy Tobon, and her husband, Ed, son, Johnny Ursic, his two cherished grandsons, Eric and Evan Tobon, his longtime girlfriend and partner, Rita Sartori, and many cousins. John was preceded in death by his loving wife of 36 years, Marian Tuminski, who passed away on November 21, 2001.
John grew up in Imperial, PA, and attended West Allegheny High School. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served four years stationed at various bases including Kaneohe Bay, HI, and Camp Lejeune, NC. After leaving the Marines, he went on to pursue a career in excavation and heavy equipment where he was the owner/operator of Ursic Excavating, Ursic Trucking, and was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 66. John made significant contributions to the landscape of the Greater Pittsburgh area through his expertise in construction and the numerous projects that he worked on over the years. Throughout his life, John was known for his incredible generosity, strong work ethic, and gregarious personality. Lovingly referred to as “Big John” by all who knew him, he enjoyed working on cars and trucks in his garage, hanging out with his many, many friends and keeping people entertained by sharing his funny stories and lively sense of humor. He was a proud member of the SNPJ Lodge 106 Imperial where he was often found socializing with anyone who was around.
Family to receive friends at the HERRICK COMPASSIONATE FUNERAL SERVICE, PC, Edward M. Herrick, Supervisor/Owner, 951 Cliff Mine Rd., North Fayette Twp., Imperial, PA, 724-695-7332, on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, between the hours of 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at 11:00 am followed by committal at Hopewell-Hebron Cemetery with military honors.
