Janet Elise (Wantje) Barringer

Janet Elise Barringer, age 73, of North Fayette Township, Oakdale, PA, formerly of Sheraden, PA, passed away peacefully at Mercy Hospital on Friday, November 3, 2023.  Janet was born in Pittsburgh, PA, on January 8, 1950, daughter to the late Gladys (Holapfel) and William Wantje; devoted wife to the late William “Butch” Barringer who passed away in 2007; beloved mother of Kenneth (Stefanie) Barringer (the most handsome of her offspring), Kris Barringer (Mackenzie Bell), and Katlen Barringer (Rianan); cherished and amazing grandmother to Elise Barringer and Leo Barringer; loving sister to Glen (Barbara) Wantje, Susan Wantje, and the late John Wantje and his wife, Bernadette, who survives; aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Janet was a stay-at-home mom for much of her life as raising three sons was a full-time job.  She previously worked as a seamstress and was a skilled craftsperson.  Janet was a trained calligrapher and would, on occasion, take side jobs making invitations or writing thank-you notes.  She was also an accomplished stained glass artist, at times selling her wares at local craft shows.  She loved selling antique pottery and linens on eBay where she became well known on chat groups and selling forums as an expert.  Janet’s claim to fame was creating and designing costumes for Halloween.  Her creativity and skill won many awards, especially when her young sons participated in local Sheraden Halloween costume contests.  In Janet’s later years, she loved and adored her grandchildren and delighted in swimming and visiting water parks with them.  She enjoyed time at her cabin in Cook Forest with her sister, Susan, and enjoyed a good meal, never forgetting dessert.  Janet will be missed dearly by all.

Family to receive friends at the HERRICK COMPASSIONATE FUNERAL SERVICE, PC, Edward M. Herrick, Supervisor/Owner, 951 Cliff Mine Rd., North Fayette Twp., Imperial, PA, 724-695-7332, for a memorial gathering on Saturday, November 11, 2023, between the hours of 5-8 pm.  Rest in peace, Janet.
