Frances L. (Van DeWalle) Maness

In her 90th year, Frances L. Maness, of Findlay Township, Coraopolis, PA, left this world with the same grace and dignity that characterized her life, passing away peacefully at home on Friday, June 12, 2026, after a period of declining health.  Frances was born in San Antonio, TX, on June 22, 1936, daughter to the late Erma (Baecke) and Frank Van DeWalle.  She was married in San Antonio to the love of her life for 60 years, Marshall L. Maness, who passed on July 13, 2014.  Together, they nurtured a family of five children, creating a home brimming with warmth and joy.  Though predeceased by her parents, beloved husband, son, Lawrence “Larry” Maness, and brother, James Van DeWalle, Frances’ legacy continues through her children, Cynthia Egar, Patricia Burns, Marjorie (James) Istwan, and Frank (Pat) Maness; grandchildren, Gretchen Wischmann, Heidi (Doug) Kramer, Jamie (Michael) Avant, Brenin Maness, and Evan (Missy) Maness; great-grandchildren, Kayla (Jon) Panther, Jari Candler, Lexi Kramer, John Polefko, Trista Phillips, Dylan Kramer, Ashlyn Kramer, Abby Brieschke, Connor Maness, and Colton Maness; and, great-great-grandchildren, Zoe and Johnnie Lee Panther.  All are testament to the enduring love that Frances instilled in her family.  She is also survived by her sisters, Rachel English and Mary Masch, and her brother, Gary Van DeWalle.

Frances was known for her warm smile and gift of gab, never meeting a stranger she couldn’t befriend.  Her compassionate and generous spirit touched many lives, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew her.  An avid gardener, Frances found joy in tending her vegetable plots and flower gardens, often sharing the fruits of her labor through her remarkable canning skills.  Her kitchen was a haven of hospitality, always brimming with delicious meals and a generous heart keen on ensuring everyone had plenty to eat.

Frances’ life, spanning nearly a century, was filled with love, laughter, and a dedication to family that created a legacy spanning five generations.  This remarkable generational continuity was one of Frances’ proudest achievements, a testament to the enduring bonds of love and family she nurtured throughout her lifetime.  Frances will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the joy of knowing her.  Her legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire her family and friends for generations to come.

Frances’ family extends heartfelt gratitude to Beth and Cheri from AHN Hospice for their compassionate care, allowing Frances to spend her final days in peace and comfort at home.

Family and friends will be received on Friday, June 19, 2026, between the hours of 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at HERRICK COMPASSIONATE FUNERAL SERVICE, PC, Edward M. Herrick, Supervisor/Owner, 951 Cliff Mine Road, North Fayette Township, Imperial, PA, (724) 695-7332.  A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Columbkille R. C. Church of St. Isidore the Farmer Parish, followed by burial at St. Columbkille Cemetery.
