Eileen Kennedy Leopold

Age 94, of Imperial, PA, passed peacefully on Monday morning, January 9, 2023 at Good Samaritan Hospice in Wexford, PA.  Beloved wife of the late Robert Kennedy and Ernest Leopold.  Loving mother of Lee (Vicki) Kennedy, Tom (Janet) Kennedy, Dave Kennedy, Barb Kennedy, and Lora (Gerry) Kyle.  Cherished grandmother of Chris, Sarah, Kristen, Cara, Tyler, Julie, and Patrick.  Adored great-grandmother of Leighton, Alycia, Tarois, Eva, Adam, Finn, Ivy, Tommy, Gabriel, Arabella, Dominic, and Sophia, and great-great-grandmother of Journey.

Eileen lived a faith-filled life, staying active in Valley Presbyterian Church well into her early 90’s.  She loved to be of service.  Over the years she actively pursued service activities such as volunteering at the community thrift store, delivering Meals on Wheels, and acting as a Deacon and on the Session at Valley Church. 

In addition to being a full-time mother, she later worked outside the home after the death of her first husband, Robert (Bob).  Eileen retired from Calgon Corporation in the 90’s.  In retirement, she kept active by walking, and would regularly walk 3+ miles on the nearby Montour Trail. 

Eileen loved the outdoors and was always proud of hiking a small section of the Appalachian Trail with her second husband, Ernest, and earning the trail name Surefoot.  She also loved Yellowstone National Park, spending two seasons in her 60’s working in the park at Old Faithful.

Our mom was fiercely independent and drove herself everywhere.  Those in the Imperial area will no doubt recall seeing her on the road to her favorite hang outs, McDonalds for coffee and the Post Office to keep up with her correspondence.  When she moved to Passavant in Zelienople in 2021, she retired from driving, finally taking some time to slow down.

The Valley Church family was an integral part of her life, and even when she moved away, she continued to enjoy fellowship with Valley Church.  We were fortunate to have her with us for so many years and have many great memories.  Rest in peace, Eileen.
