Deborah Ann “Debbie” Wiegand, age 73, of North Fayette Township, Imperial, PA, passed away peacefully at her residence on Monday, August 28, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Debbie was born in Amarillo, TX on August 17, 1950, daughter to the late Barbara “Joann” (Druin) Oberbrockling and Louis “Wesley” Speed; devoted wife of 54 years to Bill Wiegand; beloved mother to Monica Russell and her husband, John, of Orlando, FL, and Ashlea Smith of Imperial, PA; cherished grandmother to Tyler and Landry Russell of Orlando, FL, and Owen Smith of Imperial, PA; sister to Susan Steen, Michelle (Denny) Bridges, Jill Oberbrockling, and John Oberbrockling, all of Amarillo, TX; also surviving are stepfather John “Pat” Oberbrockling of Amarillo, TX, brother-in-law Dan (Farrel) Wiegand of Wichita, KS, and numerous nieces and nephews in and around Amarillo, TX.
After living in multiple states throughout her early childhood, Debbie’s family returned to Amarillo. She met and fell for her neighborhood crush, Billy Wiegand, at the tender age of 12. His airline career took the high school graduates/newlyweds first to Chicago and then to Pittsburgh. Debbie had many talents and numerous jobs over the years. Her most cherished years were spent working at Carol Leone’s Dance, Gymnastics, and Daycare. Many years were also spent as a Brownies troop leader, cheerleading coach for the Little Indians, and on various projects working at home and in her yard. Anyone knowing Debbie knew without a doubt she could do it all. She had enough energy to buzz around “the building” at Carol’s, running on coffee and Reese Cups. Everyone knew when it was recital time because her house was adorned with handmade costumes for every dancer in the show. In the daycare, Ms. Debbie’s “Imaginary Area” was a favorite for the kids and teachers. Her “airport” even attracted attention from a local newspaper. Lifelong memories and friendships were made in that building.
Debbie also had a true talent in her sewing ability, and many people came to know her as “the jean lady” at The Buckle in the Mall at Robinson. This led to further job opportunities doing alterations for Banana Republic, The Gap, Dick’s Corporation, Get Inked, and countless clients who came to her home for alterations. This was truly one of her gifts which she even continued throughout her treatments this past summer. Friends and family will be welcome to attend a celebration of Debbie’s life to be announced at a later date. Professional services provided by HERRICK COMPASSIONATE FUNERAL SERVICE, PC, Edward M. Herrick, Supervisor/Owner, 951 Cliff Mine Rd., North Fayette Twp., Imperial, PA, 724-695-7332. Rest in peace, Debbie.
