Catherine (Ackman) Schmetzer

Catherine Schmetzer, age 104, of Shenandoah, IA, formerly of Burgettstown, PA, passed away peacefully at her home in Shenandoah on Monday, December 30, 2024.  Catherine was born on November 30, 1920, in Imperial, PA, daughter to the late Harry and Margaret (Brailer) Ackman of Oakdale, PA; devoted wife of 34 years to the late George J. Schmetzer II who passed on March 7, 1979.  Left to cherish her memories are her daughter, Ruth (Herbert Floyd) Hall of Shenandoah, IA; her son, George J. (Lynne) Schmetzer III of Prosperity, PA; grandchildren, Lloyd (Heather) Hall, Timothy Hall, Stephen Hall, Tonia Nelson, Melody (Aaron) Mattes, Dawn Schmetzer (Jason Rankin), and George Schmetzer IV; great-grandchildren, Brandon Hall, Brendin McCullough (Crystal Morris), Ashley Nelson, Ashlie McCullough (Ethan Doyle), Hope Hall, Kaylee Mattes, Amelia Mattes, Caitlin McCullough, Dakota McCullough, and Elyssa McCullough; great-great-grandchildren, Alayna Nelson, Brendin McCullough Jr., Ayva Doyle, and Colt Doyle.  Along with her parents and her husband, Catherine is preceded in death by her sisters, Matilda Bogges, Minnie Lee, Ellen Baker, and Clara Murin; brother, Charles Ackman; twin brothers, names unknown, died as infants; in-laws, George A. and Estella (Watts) Schmetzer of McKees Rocks, PA; sisters-in-law, Stella Ceck, Gertrude Evanko, and Leona Doughty; brother-in-law, Henry Baker.

Catherine was a housewife and worked on the family farm.  She enjoyed baking and was a wonderful cook.  She delighted in spending time with her two children and the rest of her family and loved to shop.  She also enjoyed caring for many dogs throughout her lifetime.  Rest in peace, Catherine.

Family to receive friends on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. until the Funeral Service at 2:00 p.m. at HERRICK COMPASSIONATE FUNERAL SERVICE, PC, Edward M. Herrick, Supervisor/Owner, 951 Cliff Mine Road, North Fayette Township, Imperial, PA, (724) 695-7332, followed by burial in Valley Cemetery where Catherine will be laid to rest beside her husband, George.
