Arden B. VanNorman

Arden Boyer VanNorman, age 90, of Upper St. Clair, PA, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, following a brief illness. He was born in New Kensington, PA, on December 31, 1935, son to the late Velma Doretha (Boyer) and Thenis Earl VanNorman. Arden leaves behind his devoted wife, Mary Joy (Caddick) VanNorman, daughter, Kelly (Ralph) Hindman, grandchildren, Timothy VanNorman, Ashley Mol, Jeff (Yuka) VanNorman, Sarah (Jason) Reid, and Cheyenne (Garrett) Bolin, great-grandchildren, Taylenn Rodgers, Shanna Rodgers, Alexis Rodgers, Vincent VanNorman, RJ Reid, Jayda Reid, Christina Reid, Margo Bolin, Grayson Bolin, Graham Bolin, and Gavin Bolin, great-great granddaughter, Jadelyn, and step-daughter, Mary Joy VanDyne. In addition to his parents, Arden is preceded in death by his first wife Fay (Kelley) VanNorman, brother, Earl (Elmira) VanNorman, and two sons, Timothy VanNorman and Mark VanNorman.

Arden grew up in New Kensington and was a graduate of New Kensington High School and the University of Pittsburgh. He raised his children in York, PA, and Imperial, PA. Arden’s life was defined by a sweet kindness and generous spirit. A mission-minded man who was driven by his faith in Jesus, over the years Arden gave of himself to many charitable endeavors like Habitat for Humanity, disaster relief efforts, and even spent six memorable months with Mary Joy teaching the building trades in rural Uganda directly after they were married. He also gave of his time and talents to assist in building an extension on a church in Robinson, PA. During his building career, Arden took on a wide range of projects from houses to nuclear power plants. He was also a gifted and patient teacher, sharing his love of carpentry for many years at a local vocational school. Prior to moving to a retirement community in 2023, Arden built a major workshop behind his home in Imperial where he engaged his love of woodworking by producing many fine products for his home and for others that were both beautiful and useful. He was an active and faithful member of Christ Church of Grove Farm for many years and will be dearly missed by many. Rest in peace, Arden.

Friends will be received on Monday, April 6, 2026, between the hours of 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at HERRICK COMPASSIONATE FUNERAL SERVICE, PC, Edward M. Herrick, Supervisor/Owner, 951 Cliff Mine Road, North Fayette Township, Imperial, PA, followed by a Funeral Service at 7:00 p.m., conducted by Rev. Barry Mariana. Burial will take place on Tuesday, April 7, at Greenwood Memorial Park in New Kensington, PA. Additionally, a Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., hosted by the Friendship Village Retirement Community at 1290 Boyce Rd., Upper St. Clair, PA, 15241. The public is invited to attend one or both of Arden’s services; light refreshments will be served after Thursday’s service.
